Detroit Lions Record Prediction & Game-By-Game Breakdown 2021-22

If you’re a Detroit Lions… proceed with caution. I’m about to say some things you won’t like.

As a re-build team, I really like what the Lions are doing. If you’re looking into the future, the biggest mistakes teams do is fill their skill positions without stacking up their offensive line. That is not the case for the Lions. They have arguably the most promising young offensive line in the NFL. The future is bright in that sense.

Here is the bad. While the Lions have one of the best young teams in the NFL, they are not built to win in 2021. I love the offensive line, I love D’Andre Swift & T.J. Hockenson, but everywhere else on offense looks dooming.

When it comes to Jared Goff, I believe that Sean McVay was masking just how bad he was. He does not know how to read defenses properly and it shows in him game. Entering a brand new offense with far less weapons will shine a light on his woes a Quarterback. I believe he will struggle mightily.

This is especially the case when considering his weapons. T.J. Hockenson is the best receiving threat and it’s not even close. Signing Tyrell Williams and Breshad Perriman is not enough to make up for losing both Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones.

Defense is a very similar story as well. I think they have some really good young talent that is built for the future, but in 2021 it will not be enough.

That is especially the case for their defense. They went out and drafted three defensive linemen in the 2nd and 3rd rounds which really sets up for the future, but does not move the needle this season. These players will need time to develop and will not be massive impact makers next season.

I believe Jeff Okudah is a young star as well. He struggled with injuries last season, but I believe he will slowly progress into one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. It’s only a matter of time.

All-in-all I believe that there is going to be a massive adjustment period for this team. They have some great young players, but there were too many changes from last year to view them more than maybe a 5-6 win team. That is their ceiling to me in 2021.
