Whether you love or hate McGregor, the numbers speak for themselves. After Conor McGregor broke the record for fastest knockout in a title bout against Jose Aldo, he quickly rose to stardom. Aldo at the time was regarded as one of the best ever and McGregor completely shattered his reputation.
It was soon after that McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to win the title in 2 different divisions. What makes it special is he once again won in McGregor fashion destroying Eddie Alvarez. His left hand was clearly a problem and there were very few fighters who could handle it.
Here is why I can’t have him any higher. While he became the first champ-champ, he also never defended a single title. In the life sense he was smart to take the money fights instead of the hardest fight, but that keeps him out of the GOAT conversation.
All this being said if Khabib vs Connor 2 happens and McGregor somehow wins it, that will completely change his position on this list.

Nowadays your lucky to see you favorite fighter once or twice a year. In the prime of Matt Hughes in 2001 he had 9 fights in a 12 month span. The 9th fight was his chance for the title and he took full advantage slamming Carlos Netwon into a knockout.
Early 2000s was a completely different time for the UFC as Huges was accepting any and every fight. He was going up against killers and ended up defending his belt 7 different times.
His most notable victory would come against GSP as he put on a clinic on the ground. Hughes was able to set up an arm bar after some viscous ground and pound shots.

Liddell was given his first title chance against Randy Couture in 2003 for UFC 40 in which he fell short. After going through Alistair Overeem and Tito Ortiz he had his chance for a rematch and knocked out Couture. This led to his reign as champion in which he defended his belt 4 times.
