Denver Broncos Record Prediction

As I mentioned in my NFL Power Rankings, the Broncos made some great moves this off-season made an already good team great. Their 7-9 record did not do them justice last season as most of their losses were within a single score. They were a couple of bad calls away from making the playoffs, and they kept this same team.

It took until week 13 for the Broncos to go with Drew Lock and they didn’t look back. That’s when they began playing their best football with the rookie finishing the season 4-1 as a starter. Technically speaking, he has the highest win percentage of any active Quarterback in the NFL. Going into his sophmore season will be very telling for Drew Lock. Teams have more film on him and will zero in on his tendencies forcing him to make throws he is uncomfortable with.

Melvin Gordon was their biggest off-season acquisition who will be added in with Philip Lindsay as arguably the best RB duo in the NFL. Having two great running backs that are great at both rushing and catching the football is a blessing.

They also spent their first 2 picks to add Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler to the receiving corp. Courtland Sutton has already proved he can play like a top 10 wide receiver in the NFL and Jeudy was arguably the best wide receiver of his draft class.

All this talk about the offense, but that’s not Broncos football. The Denver Broncos have been notoriously reliant on their defense in recent history. It won’t be any different next season.

They lost Chris Harris and Derek Wolfe which looks bad at face value, but they made up for it by signing A.J. Bouye and trading for Jurrell Casey. Both of these players can be argued as upgrades, and they kept their two best players on defense.

The front will continue to be dominant with the pass rushing duo of Bradley Chubb and Von Miller getting even better. I did not include Von Miller as the defensive player of the year for this team, but that is because I think so highly of the up and coming superstar Justin Simmons.

He does not get the respect he deserves as a safety. Simmons looks to once again lead this secondary after the best season of his career. I expect him to be in the conversation for first team all-pro next season as he becomes a household name.

This team is refined enough to clean the table, but playoff bound nonetheless. This is a trap team who will upset better teams than them. The Broncos should have made the playoffs last season and I think they are a much better team going into the 2020-21 season. They finally have the offense to compliment their scary defense making them a popular pick as the darkhorse Super Bowl winner.
