NFL Top 10 Best Wide Receiver Seasons Ever – #2 Jerry Rice

#2 – Jerry Rice

Any list about WRs without Jerry Rice number 1 feels like a crime. I feel a little dirty not putting him 1st on this list, but I also feel like it’s warranted considering the context of the list. Jerry Rice over an entire career is by far the best Wide Receiver ever, but strictly based on the best season, there is one that bested him.

Recording this type of season in the 1980s was unheard of. 22 touchdowns in only 12 games is insane. I can only imagine the damage he could have done in a full season. At the time it was known that young Jerry Rice was one of the emerging superstars and followed it up with a hall of fame career.

Much like others on this list, there could have been a few Jerry Rice seasons included. The honorable mention for me would be in 1995 at 33 years old when he recorded 1848 yards, 122 receptions and 15 touchdowns.

Best WR Seasons Ever - #1 Randy Moss

Best WR Seasons Ever – #1 Randy Moss

#1 – Randy Moss

Randy Moss played most of his career with the Vikings and fared very well. When you add the most athletically gifted WR of all-time on a team with Tom Brady in his prime, records happen. It resulted in a 16-0 season where Tom Brady broke the record for most passing touchdowns along with Randy Moss breaking the record for most receiving touchdowns.

I’ve talked about the eye test a lot on this list and this is no different. Randy Moss is the greatest deep threat of all-time and Brady trusted him enough to win 50-50 balls that he would even throw it up in double coverage. For most you’d think throwing into double coverage is not the best throw, but Randy Moss was the beneficiary of many highlight catches because Brady took chances knowing his ability.

While Moss came up short for his first and only Super Bowl chance this season, it was not by his hands. He was outstanding all throughout the season along with the playoffs.
