Baltimore Ravens Record Prediction
Not bad for a running back. I’m not going to lie, I was one of the people skeptical about Lamar Jackson as a passer. I didn’t think he was accurate enough to be successful in the NFL and i’m here to tell you I was wrong. Lamar Jackson has a lot of work when it comes to accuracy in the short to intermediate game, but he outweighs that with his running ability. He is so far ahead of any scrambling Quarterback that he doesn’t need to have pinpoint accuracy like a Tom Brady or Drew Brees.
Going into the 2020 season, Greg Roman has talked about a more balanced approach on offense. Two seasons ago they led the league in rushing attempts and they will move more towards that offensive philosophy. In the NFL draft they double downed on this statement by drafting J.K. Dobbins in the 2nd round. Mark Ingram already proved he has a lot left in the tank so expect an extremely effective two-headed monster approach with both Ingram and Dobbins. If this was 5 seasons ago, Dobbins would be a 1st round pick, but this draft was historically deep talent-wise.
I am a little worried with how this offensive line will respond to Marshall Yanda retiring. He was one of the best interior lineman ever and I don’t think a couple of mid-round drafted linemen can fill the void fully. That being said they were one of the most dominant offensive lines and I can’t see them doing a jump from first to worst.
For the passing attack I expect a nice leap forward for Marquise Brown. He was a one trick pony last season, but has worked tremendously on his game as a route runner. They also added sleeper Devin Duvernay who will compete in 3 Wide Receiver sets. I would not be shocked at all if he moves up ahead of Willie Snead on the depth chart.
The defense of the Ravens is clearly still their strength. When Greg Roman talks about a more run heavy approach, I believe it because they have the defense to do it. This is a top 5 defense that will single highhandedly win games by winning the turnover battle.
They used what little cap they had to retain all of their key pieces mostly on short term deals. They also drafted Patrick Queen who I thought was the best linebacker in a very deep draft. In my mind he should have been the first off the board at his position. He is going to be a menace stopping the run.
Their secondary is the standout for this team. Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey combine as the best CB duo in the NFL and they have Earl Thomas backing them up at Safety.
I’m sure there are plenty of teams who would have misused the lethal threat that is Lamar Jackson and let him rot. Not the Ravens. John Harbaugh and Greg Roman are two of the most gifted minds in the NFL and have developed an offense that is truly revolutionary. With a defense that is good as it is, they are given the freedom to control the clock and momentum.
I’m as sure as it gets for the Ravens making the playoffs, but they have been notorious for falling apart in the biggest moments. Another one and done in the playoffs will not cut it for this Ravens team.
Can Lamar Jackson finally win his first playoff game? I think this is the season! Be sure to vote in our polls below about the Ravens season.
