#2 – Tre’Davious White
When the Patriots stole Stephon Gilmore from the Bills, it was a massive loss for their secondary. Thankfully they hit the lottery with Tre’Davious White and haven’t looked back since.
At 25 years old, we still haven’t seen the peek for this superstar. He has the killer instinct at Cornerback and you frequently see him running routes better than the players he’s covering to make a jump on the ball.
You look at Stephon Gilmore who predominately plays man coverage or Richard Sherman who predominately plays zone coverage, but the Bills ask Tre’Davious White to do it all. He prospers in both man and zone coverage which is perfect for the Bills who love to mix up their coverage. He’s only getting better and it would not shock me at all if there is a consensus that he is the best Cornerback in the NFL.
#1 – Stephon Gilmore
Bill Belichick always opts against paying a kings ransom to a player in free agency. Stephon Gilmore was an exception because he is that good. I say Kings Ransom, but his elite play has made it a bargain since the signing.
The New England Patriots play more man coverage than any team in the NFL which results in Gilmore shadowing the best Wide Receiver on the opposing team. He has the hardest responsibility of any cornerback in the NFL so his stats really shouldn’t be as amazing as they were last season. His Defensive Player of the Year award was well justified because of that.
The film doesn’t lie and besides a couple of hiccup games, Gilmore dominated against the other teams best Wide Receiver all season. No team could take away one side of the field like Gilmore this past season which is why I believe he was the best cornerback in the NFL.
