#10 – Darius Slay
The Detroit Lions should not have taken Darius Slay for granted. He is still one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and the Eagles got him at an absolute steal for only a third-round and fifth-round selection in the 2020 NFL draft.
Darius Slay has been dominant over the past 4 seasons with a slight down-tick in production this past season. Now the headlines are about Slay wanting to be the highest paid CB in the NFL, but don’t knock the confidence. Surely he deserves to be paid, but at 29 years old I can’t imagine him getting top dollar.
Slay will continue to play at a top 10 level, but I can’t see him in the top 3 or even top 5 conversation barring a massive leap forward for Slay and the Eagles defense.
#9 – Marshon Lattimore
Imagine being a Cornerback in the NFC South. Twice a year you’re going up against killers at Wide Receiver. Julio Jones, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and D.J. Moore are all in the top 10 Wide Receivers category as well as Michael Thomas if you’re not a Saint. That is the life of Marshon Lattimore and this baller is never shy to be on an island against the best of the best.
He can’t win every battle, but he frequently bests those elite WRs. That’s why you can’t take his stats at complete face value. He’s not the type of guy to come out of the season with 8 interceptions, but he RARELY get’s burned and is a CB1 who invites man coverage against the best of the best.
This is a guy with elite athleticism and is only 23 years old. I don’t think he was a top 5 cornerback this season, but talent-wise I believe he is up there. I expect him to be a riser on this list next season.
#8 – Marlon Humphrey
Marlon Humphrey may not be the fancy choice, but he has quietly developed into one of the most consistent Cornerbacks in the NFL. I would even go as far as saying he is even more consistent than his new teammate Marcus Peters who takes more risks.
Humphrey is only 23 years old and has gotten better every season. He has gone from a nickel specialist to a reliable cover corner who was just nominated as a first team all-pro.
One of his most impressive plays was not in coverage. In week 5 he forced Juju to fumble and recovered also recovered the football. He has the killer instinct you can’t teach and is a perfect fit for this stingy Ravens defense. This Ravens team is one of the best in the NFL and Marlon Humphrey has not been getting enough credit.
