#7 – Cleveland Browns

People bought into the Browns hype a season too early. This roster is way more talented than their 2019 record suggests and frankly Freddie Kitchens was a joke of a coach.

I still haven’t given up on Baker Mayfield. He has only had 2 seasons in the NFL and has shown his moments of greatness. Cleveland is where Quarterbacks go to die, but I think Mayfield will change the tides. This offense is even more talented than last season and with some better coaching they can explode.

It’s laughable that over 1000 receiving yards for Odell Beckham is a down year. It isn’t easy transitioning to a new offense with a young Quarterback and he made the most of it while struggling with injury. Odell and Landry are one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL and should build on the chemistry with Baker.

The Browns even signed Austin Hooper at Tight End. David Njoku can’t stay healthy and they now have both dual threat TEs at their disposal.

Ultimately I think the biggest upgrade for the Browns this season will be their offensive line. They signed Jack Conklin to a massive deal and drafted offensive tackle Jedrick Wills with their 10th overall pick. Pass protection was a massive issue last season and their starting roster looks a lot stronger.

#6 – San Francisco 49ers

Usually the first thing you look at when thinking about the best offense is their Quarterback. They are usually one of the elites. Not the 49ers. Jimmy Garoppolo is MAYBE a top 15 Quarterback in the NFL, but that doesn’t matter when his Head Coach Kyle Shanahan is an offensive guru. Remember Matt Ryan’s MVP season? Give a lot of credit to his offensive coordinator at the time in Shanahan.

If it’s not the Quarterback you look at first, it should be the offensive line. A great offensive line makes everything easier and this one is elite. While I don’t think Jimmy G is a top 10 Quarterback, this offensive line gave him a clean enough pocket to look great. Also, no matter who they put at running back, they were producing behind these maulers.

One of those running backs was Matt Breida who is now gone. Raheem Mostert is the running back they rode late in the season and he ran away with the role. They love rotating the running backs and i’m sure both Tevin Coleman and Jerrick McKinnon will be given a chance. Ultimately it will be Mostert who I see scoring the bulk of the touchdowns next season.

Tight Ends is a no brainer. To me George Kittle is the best Tight End in the NFL. He may be on the same tier as Kelce when it comes to pass catching, but Kittle becomes the clear #1 Tight End when you look at his blocking ability.

Looking at their Wide Receivers, they don’t yet have one of the elites. They lost Emmanuel Sanders to the Saints, but still have Deebo Samuel and drafted Brandon Aiyuk in the first round. Both of these guys will prosper inside the efficiency machine that is Shanahan’s 49ers offense.

#5 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

If you read my NFL Power Rankings for the upcoming season you would know how high I am on the Bucs. People draw the comparison to the Browns, but I think it’s completely different. You can’t compare Freddie Kitchens to Bruce Arians and most importantly you can’t compare Baker Mayfield to Tom Brady.

Tom Brady may not be in his prime, but at this point can you bet against him as a winner. He won’t be taking as many deep shots as Jameis Winston, but will bring a more methodical approach that will drastically drop the amount of turnovers. Bruce Arians loves slinging the rock and Brady has been blessed with his best supporting cast since his record breaking 2007 season.

Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are without a doubt the best Wide Receiver duo in the NFL. While I think Mike Evans stats will take a slight decline due to the play style of Brady, Chris Godwin will continue to eat. He offers more of an ability in the short to intermediate game and that’s where Tom Brady shines.

Rob Gronkowski, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate are an elite Tight End core. I think Gronk will get eased into action, but you still have to expect Brady to incorporate his favorite plays into the mix.

Pass protection is by far the biggest worry. Tristan Wirfs was added with the 13th overall pick, but is still raw as a rookie. They struggled mightily last season and keeping 42 year old Tom Brady on his feet has to be the main priority.

Their rushing attack was also terrible last season. Ronald Jones showed flashes of greatness in the rushing game, but was pulled due to pass protection issues. Dual threat Ke’Shawn Vaughn was added in the 3rd round of the draft, so the workhorse is up for grabs.
