#2 – Dominique Wilkins
For more than a decade, one of the nba’s true marquee players electrified crowds all over the nation, earning the nickname Human Highlight Reel. With an abundance of spectacular individual plays, Dominique Wilkins is the best in-game dunker in nba history.
The high-flying 6-foot-8 forward dawned a Hawks jersey for 12 straight seasons, while dunking a lot along the way. His incredible athletic ability was on full display during several legendary dunk contests, against the likes of MJ, which propelled him into stardom. If Wilkins won his 3rd dunk contest in 1988, a strong case could be made for him to be #1.
#1 – Vince Carter
The NBA Slam Dunk Contest, known as one of the purest exhibitions of athletic ability, served as a launching pad to stardom for several players on this list. Although, the event didn’t even take place in ‘98-‘99 due to a string on unimaginative contests leading to a lack of excitement.
It all changed in 2000, when we witnessed the greatest performance ever by the best dunker of all-time. Vince Carter, aka Vinsanity, aka Air Canada, allegedly scraped his entire plan and produced a performance that resonated throughout history.
With a combination of grace, power and hang time, VC put on a show that would inspire young ballers from around the globe for generations. He is on a tier of his own for the best dunkers ever hierarchy list.
