#2 – Julio Jones
Julio Jones just became the fastest Wide Receiver to reach 12,000 yards adding to his already immaculate resume. Whenever you hear draft analysts compare an upcoming Wide Receiver to Julio Jones, don’t buy it. He is 6 foot 3 inches with a 4.39 40 yard dash time. Julio Jones is one of a kind.
The Falcons struggled last season, but I put no blame on Julio Jones. The Falcons defense was horrendous and the o-line was doing the offense no favors as Ryan tried to dig them out of games.
Looking into next season that offensive line has improved leaving more time in the pocket for Ryan. The targets of Austin Hooper are also up for grabs as it will be a lot of Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley who are arguably the best WR duo in the NFL!
While Michael Thomas has the best numbers, Julio Jones is the most talented and well rounded Wide Receiver in the NFL. For that reason I already put him in the conversation for top 10 Wide Receivers in NFL history.
#1 – Michael Thomas
I knew Michael Thomas was amazing, but I had no idea he was this good. The 2019 season was eye opening for me as I now give Michael Thomas the respect he deserves. I laugh at the people saying, “but he only runs slant routes”. While he does rely on the short game more than anyone on this list, he also does it better than anyone. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Sean Payton is an offensive guru and knows exactly how to run a hyper efficient offense. Even without Drew Brees at the helm, Michael Thomas was racking up the numbers. He finished the season leading in receiving yards and receptions on route to breaking the record for most receptions in a season. Michael Thomas was the best Wide Receiver in the NFL last season and it wasn’t even close.
Next season may be the last for Drew Brees. They added Emmanuel Sanders to this receiving corp, but if anything that helps Michael Thomas as the demands some attention from the defense. Brees has built uncanny chemistry with Michael Thomas and all signs point to him being the most efficient WR in the NFL.
