#4 – Al Iafrate
It took 16 years for Zdeno Chara to beat the record of Al Iafrate which he set in 1993. He set the record with a time of 105.2 which Chara only beat by two tenths of a second.
This was a big defender who knew how to lay into a slap shot and the lefty would live or die by it. You would even see the defender take a slap shot on a breakaway. No dekes. No moves. Just a slap shot. You have to respect the dedication.
#3 – Al MacInnis
You’d think guys with these types of slap shots would lay off a bit in practice. Not MacInnis. He grew a reputation for breaking some bones and a few face masks with his blistering slap shot in practice.
His shot also caused some problems in pre-game warm-up. MacInnis’ slap shot was so hard it went through the boards behind the net to cause a delay before the Blues game.
Unlike others on this list you wouldn’t think he had an elite slap shot by looking at him. He was extremely skinny and surprised many.
