Since joining the New Orleans Pelicans, CJ McCollum continues to be a scoring machine. Whether it’s from deep or mid-range CJ McCollum is one of the best shooters in the NBA today.
Even without Zion, the Pelicans looked like a playoff-caliber squad. McCollum has made a massive difference on the floor as a 2-way guard. Going into next season, if he can get some help, the Pelicans will surprise people.

#9 – Dejounte Murray
I was shocked to see Dejounte Murray get traded by the Spurs to the Hawks and I was even more shocked to see that the Hawks were still a bad team with him. This was supposed to be one of the best backcourt duos in the NBA, and sure they had their moments, but Murray and Young were extremely streaky.
What makes Murray so special is his defensive ability. His ability to guard on the perimeter is shared by very few shooting guards.
It wasn’t a complete bust of a season for Murray, but I really was expecting more. If the streakiness stops next season, the duo of Murray and Young could finally live up to the hype.

#8 – Desmond Bane
Consider this a breakout season for Desmond Bane. If it wasn’t for his injury, he was on pace to become one of the top 5 best shooting guards in the NBA today.
This man is a 3-point shooting specialist. Attempting seven 3-pointers per game, while averaging 40% makes me wonder if he has potential to become one of the top 10 best 3-point shooters ever in NBA history. This is an NBA that places a premium on shooting ability and Desmond Bane is a product of this new NBA.
Don’t sleep on his defensive ability as well. He has averaged at least a steal per game over the past two seasons.

#7 – Zach Lavine
There was a time I thought Zach Lavine would become the best shooting guard in the NBA, but that isn’t the case anymore. After fighting some nagging injuries, Zach Lavine has struggled to maintain that elite status. But don’t get it twisted, this man is still really freaking good with little backcourt help.
He is a proven all-star who pairs his shooting ability with a tremendous and stingy defensive game. There isn’t a big weakness at anything he does. He’s good at everything.
Again, it’s just tough for a guy like Lavine to completely carry a team. With Lonzo Ball gone, all the weight has been put on his shoulders.

#6 – Paul George
Another case of the injury bug. Paul George when healthy has proved how dominant he can be. A two-way specialist, Paul George takes as much pride in his defensive ability than how many points he scores on offense.
But staying healthy has been a problem. He hasn’t had a season with 60+ games played in the past four seasons. And the Clippers production reflects that considering it’s the same old story with his teammate Kawhi Leonard.
At 33 years old, I still consider Paul George one of the best players in the NBA, but the best ability is availability. I need to see him on the court more to consider him top 5 at his position.

#5 – Anthony Edwards
It was only a matter of time before the former number one overall pick Anthony Edwards ascended into stardom. In his third season, he did just that.
Anthony Edwards just put up a career high 53% effective field goal mark while averaging 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists. His jump shot keeps getting better and better when he is in fact an athletic freak.
What really puts him into the elite category is his defensive ability. He is a far more willing defender which helped transform the Timberwolves into a playoff team even without Karl Anthony-Towns.

#4 – Bradley Beal
It looks normal seeing him in a Wizards uniform, but that is going to change quickly. After a blockbuster deal that sent him to the Phoenix Suns, the NBA landscape will look very different going into next team.
Consider the Suns the newest superteam. DeAndre Ayton is one of the softest players in the NBA and good riddance to him as the newly acquired Bradley Beal is a scoring phenom.
Bradley Beal just averaged his highest field goal percentage of 50%. That is absurd. His jumpshot somehow gets better and better.

#3 – Kyrie Irving
I still believe in Kyrie Irving. People expected him to immediately transform the Mavericks into Championship contenders, but chemistry doesn’t just form overnight. It takes time, especially when it comes to joining a team with such a ball-dominant point guard in Luka Doncic who commands control.
Call out his off-court issues all you want, but he is still one of the best scorers in the NBA today. Averaging 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists per game as the second best player on a team is a recipe for success.
If this duo stays together, I will bet my bottom dollar they make the playoffs this upcoming season. They’re too talented not to and the chemistry will form.
NBA Top 10 Best Shooting Guards in the NBA Today 2023 NBA Rankings #2 Donovan Mitchell
#2 – Donovan Mitchell
This was very tough for me. I really wanted to rank Donovan Mitchell as the best shooting guard in the NBA. I mean, during the NBA season, he was the best SG in the NBA. The reason I opted not to was because of the playoffs. It’s almost as if he ran out of juice, and he was not the same player.
Even still, what a season for Donovan Mitchell. I was not expecting the Cleveland Cavaliers to be as good as they were and credit where credit is due. Donovan Mitchell was lights out.
The four-time All-Star averaged a career-high 28.3 points on 48% shooting. He also nailed 39% from distance, showing off his jumpshot that made him so popular with the Utah Jazz.
NBA Top 10 Best Shooting Guards in the NBA Today 2023 NBA Rankings #1 Devin Booker
#1 – Devin Booker
Devin Booker was not an all-star this season. But as we all know, the All-Star game means absolutely nothing when talking about the best players in the NBA. I mean, this dude averaged 27.8 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game yet somehow got left off that list. That is absurd.
Devin Booker is far too good of a shooter to not be considered at least the second best shooting guard in the NBA. Like I said above, while you can easily argue Donovan Mitchell over Booker, it’s the playoff performances that ultimately led me to this decision.
The Phoenix Suns did end up losing in the conference semi-finals for the second consecutive season, but it was not at the fault of Booker. I think the entire NBA should be scared of this new look Suns superteam that added the lethal Bradley Beal. This offense is going to be a nightmare to stop.
